There’s something really tender about those first few weeks with a newborn.
You’re tired; you’re figuring everything out day by day; you’re trying to remember the last time you ate something warm. And now you’re preparing for photos on top of it all.
So if we were sitting together, probably with a lukewarm coffee between us, here’s what I’d tell you before your newborn session. The real things. The helpful things. The things that make this whole experience feel a little lighter.
Because honestly, you don’t need perfection; you just need to show up as you are. I’ll take care of the rest.
You don’t need to have it all together

If we walk into your home and you’re a little tired, a little unsure of how the morning went, or still in the middle of feeds; that’s absolutely normal. Newborn life is beautiful; it’s also messy. We expect that.
You don’t need to be “on.”
You don’t need your house to look like a magazine spread.
You don’t need your baby on a perfect schedule.
That said, there are just a few little things that help your home show up best on camera. Here’s the balance:
- A little bit of tidy in the rooms we’re shooting helps keep the focus on your family.
- But it doesn’t mean deep cleaning, moving every toy, or pretending this isn’t real life.
- Leave the baby gear, the lived-in stuff that makes this season yours.
You don’t need perfection; you just need a little readiness.
Once we arrive, we’ll guide you, choose the best light, and help use your space in a way that feels natural and authentic. We’ll make something beautiful out of the home you’ve already prepared.
Your baby runs the show

Newborn sessions are slow and baby-led.
We pause for feeding, burping, diaper changes, cuddling… you name it.
If your baby cries, that doesn’t mean the session isn’t going well.
It just means they’re communicating. We adjust; we breathe; we go at their pace.
Some of the sweetest moments actually happen between the “posed” moments: the way they settle into your chest, the way they grab your finger, the way you look at them without even realizing it.
Those are the moments we’re here to freeze.
Crying, Wiggling, Chaos… These Are Normal

I promise you: nothing your baby or older kids does will ever surprise us.
Babies cry. Toddlers run and didn’t want to participate. Siblings get jealous. Someone forget where they put the pacifier. Someone spits up on the one outfit you really wanted.
Every family has their version of this; and somehow, the photos still turn out beautiful. Sometimes even more beautiful because they’re real.
Perfection isn’t the goal; connection is.
Your Postpartum body doesn’t need to be hidden

This one feels tender, but it’s important.
You just grew a whole human.
Your body is healing, shifting, learning a new rhythm. You’re not supposed to “bounce back.” You’re supposed to be here: loving, holding, breathing through it.
We’re not photographing your size; we’re photographing your love.
We’ll guide you into flattering, natural poses that feel comfortable and genuine.
And one day, your baby will look back at these photos and think,
“That’s my mom. She loved me so much.”
Not one thought about your body… just you & how much you loved them.
Simple outfits are always best

Soft, neutral colors.
Comfortable pieces.
Bare feet if you want.
Swaddles, onesies, textures that feel cozy.
You don’t need anything fancy.
And if the thought of picking outfits feels overwhelming, I’ve already taken that off your plate; the TBP Client Closet has beautiful options for moms, newborns, and little ones.
Your only job is to choose what feels like you.
We’re here to capture this season… exactly as it is

These first weeks are raw and emotional and unbelievably precious.
You may feel exhausted and unsure, but there’s a softness to this season that deserves to be remembered exactly as it is.
Tiny fingers.
Slow breaths.
Sleepy stretches.
The way they curl into you like you’re their entire world… because you are.
And doing this in your home adds a kind of magic you simply can’t recreate anywhere else.
This is where you rock them at 2AM… change diapers half-asleep… pull them close on the couch… whisper to them in the quiet moments… look at them and wonder how time can move this fast.
Your home holds the beginning of their story: the late nights, the quiet mornings, the rhythms only the two of you know. And these photos help you remember all of it.
Years from now, these images will bring you right back to this chapter… the softness, the sweetness, even the moments you’re certain you’ll never forget, but somehow do.
Years from now, they’ll mean even more.
Most importantly, you’re doing a great job!

Really.
You are.
Newborn life asks a lot from everyone: you, dad, and even big siblings learning their new role. It’s overwhelming and beautiful all at once, and you’re navigating it the best way you know how.
Your newborn photos are simply a celebration of your baby and the family that’s welcoming them with so much love.
Your kids don’t have to act perfect.
Everyone can just be who they are that day.
You be with your people; we’ll guide everything else: the light, the flow, the natural moments that make your family yours.
You can breathe.
We’ve got you.
All of you.
Ready to remember this season before it slips away?
