Suppose you’re looking for things to do with your kiddos this summer. In that case, I know of a park in Herndon, Virginia, that is super popular with families! Frying Pan Park is a location that offers many different activities, excursions, and camps for everyone. Read on to check out all the fun activists you can engage in!
About Frying Pan Park
Frying Pan Park was a working farm from the 1920s to the 1950s. With this in mind, you’ll notice a variety of buildings and barns that interpret this specific lifestyle.
This park is perfect for visiting on any given day, given that there are no fees to enter. The location also features wide paths, which are wheelchair accessible and mostly stroller friendly so that you can bring along the little ones!
Address: 2739 West Ox Rd, Herndon, VA 20171, United States
Hours: Grounds & parking lots are open daily from 9 am – 5 pm.
Activities At Frying Pan Farm Park
While visiting, you and your family can meet draft horses, chickens, peacocks, rabbits, sheep, goats, cows, and pigs at Frying Pan Farm Park’s working farm of the 1930s. Tour to see how farm families lived in the 1930s, check out historical items, including:
- 1900 Fordson
- John Deere and Farmall tractors
- Working cider press building
- Moffett Blacksmith Shop from 1917
Here, you can also partake in wagon rides. Each ride takes you through the farm, into the woods, past the crop fields, and back for a fun-filled ride!
Suppose your family is interested in summer classes and camps. In that case, the park offers adult fitness, art, dance, dog classes, kids’ summer camps, classes for toddlers through adults, family programs, licensed preschool courses, and horseback riding lessons.
Love horses? The Equestrian Center on property offers rental events, schooling horse shows, short-term stabling, and multiple trailer-in schooling options. In addition, you’ll be able to get comfortable with the full-size indoor arena, two full-size outdoor riding rings, and an XC Rally Field.
Events
In addition to all the awesome things to do at the park, your family can enjoy many events and activities. For example, on Wednesday mornings at 10 am, you can attend Arts in the Parks. This class teaches the importance of protecting our natural resources, introducing them to live entertainment in an informal kid-friendly atmosphere, and helping forge a connection between kids and parks.
You should also remember to head over for the 4-H Fair and Carnival, which runs from August 4th to the 7th. Hunter Mill Melodies runs from Wednesday mornings to 10:00 am in the visitor center. This event features a free entertainment series with various musical acts from across the United States and worldwide.
