It’s not just about being good with kids.
It’s about getting it.
About knowing that no matter how much you plan, someone’s going to spill something, cry over the wrong snack, or lose a shoe on the way to the car. And maybe that someone is you.
A family-friendly photographer doesn’t just show up, smile, and click.
She meets you where you are. In the chaos. In the noise. In the middle of real life.
And she holds space for it all.
She doesn’t panic when things go sideways
The baby’s crying? Your toddler’s yelling? You forgot the wipes?
She doesn’t judge. She doesn’t rush.
She just rolls with it; because she’s probably been there too.
She knows that sometimes the best moments show up in the middle of the mess. So she doesn’t fight the chaos; she makes room for it. Gently. Kindly. Without ever making you feel like you’re “doing it wrong.”
She sees your kids as they are and loves that
She doesn’t expect them to sit still or smile perfectly. She wants them to laugh too loud, jump around, be silly. To be them.
Because those are the photos that last; the ones that feel like your child, not just a version of them dressed up and told to say cheese.
She doesn’t just interact with your kids. She connects with them. And they feel it.
She doesn’t need things to be perfect
She’s not waiting for the “Pinterest moment.” She’s looking for the real stuff.
The way your child wraps their arms around your neck.
How you instinctively brush hair off your daughter’s face.
The tiny moments you don’t even realize are happening until you see them frozen in a photo; and your heart catches in your throat.
She knows this season won’t last
And not in a sad, sappy way; but in the honest, hold-it-while-you-can kind of way.
She sees that you’re tired, probably overthinking everything, and wondering if any of this will even turn out. And she’s right there, saying, “You’re doing great. Just love on them. I’ve got this.”
Because it’s not about perfect smiles or matching outfits.
It’s about remembering how it felt to be theirs. Right now.
And one day, when they’re older and taller and don’t crawl into your lap quite as much, these are the photos you’ll pull out.
The ones that bring it all back; the noise, the snuggles, the sweetness of just being together.
So what makes a photographer family-friendly?
Someone who sees what you’re too close to see right now.
And makes sure you never forget it.
Because One Day, You’ll Miss This Messy, Beautiful Season
Everything I just wrote? That’s how I show up.
I don’t just understand this season of life; I’m in it too.
The chaos, the sweetness, the deep breath before the meltdown, the way your heart aches a little because time keeps moving. I get it.
And that’s exactly why I photograph families the way I do; with patience, with care, and with a whole lot of heart.
So if you’re in Northern Virginia and you’re looking for someone who will see your family the way you do; I’d be honored to be that person.
Reach out anytime. I’d love to help you hold onto this season while you’re still in it.
